Six Effective Tips for Ping Pong Beginners

1. Be in a ready position at all times.

A ready position is a balanced stance wherein your body is prepared to move in any direction, at anytime. Keep in mind that ping-pong is a very fast game. Always be alert and at your feet.

2. Be comfortable with your racket.

Ping-pong players enjoy the luxury of bringing their own rackets to games and tournaments. Therefore, invest on a good racket and use it exclusively. Adapting to a particular racket may take some time. If you keep on changing rackets, you will never get any better with the sport. In a game of ping-pong, your racket is your best friend. Take care for it the way you should.

3. Practice, practice, practice.

Nothing will raise your game higher than adequate amount of practice. Learn one skill at a time and master it. Develop your game and focus on getting better, instead of concentrating on winning the match. Sooner or later, your moves will become automatic and victory will come easy.

4. Play on the offense.

If you play on the offense, your opponent will end up playing defensively. This means their energy is concentrated on returning your hits rather than devising a good play of their own. Deep slice shots and ball spins are good skills to master. If you do it well, your opponent will end up giving you an open ball along with easy points for you.

5. Develop your physical form.

Aside from ping-pong skills, you’ve got to develop your physique as well. Good balance and footwork, superb reflexes, and optimum hand-eye coordination are all essential. Surely, your ball serving and receiving skills are best coupled with these physical abilities.

6. Look at both the ball and the opponent’s racket.

The main goal of ping-pong is to send the ball to the other side of the table. Novice players tend to concentrate on the movements of the ball, ignoring the racket that hit it altogether. Good ping-pong players can deceive their opponents with their serve by a slight change on the angle of their racket.

These are six good tips on how you can get better in ping-pong. Beginners will find these tips useful, although intermediate players can fine-tune their games with them as well. Ping-pong is a very enjoyable game. Much more if you are really good at it.
