Carnival 2008 Dates Confirmed

The Mayor of Cozumel, Gustavo Ortega Joaquín, confirmed yesterday that the main events for Cozumel's 2008 Carnival will run from Wednesday, January 23 to Wednesday, January 30.

The dates have been brought forward one week from those originally anticipated, due to a clash with local Municipal and State elections.

Pre-Carnival events will begin on Saturday, January 5, with the introduction of the Carnival King and Queen Candidates.

The Grand Opening of the main Carnival events will begin on Wednesday, January 23, when the elected Carnival King and Queen will be crowned.

The big four dazzling technicolour processions along Cozumel's downtown seafront will take place from Saturday, January 26 through to Tuesday, January 29.

Carnival events will be brought to a close on the night of Wednesday, January 30 with the traditional reading of the 'last Carnival testament' and the burning of Juan Carnival.
