Flying gift experience

Extreme sports are constantly being conceived, whether it's jumping from rooftop to rooftop of giddy, tall buildings, strapping yourself to an elastic cord and hurling yourself into a canyon, or climbing a sheer cliff without a harness, there are always a select few people who don't consider something a sport unless it includes an element of precariousness. As always, there are plenty of companies who are only too happy to provide these people with what they want, be it a rock-climbing course, flying experience days or the bungee rope and a gentle push.

While flying days make an amazing experience for anyone, it depends somewhat on what it is propelling you through the air. Hang gliders and Para gliders are standard fare for flyboys and girls, but a great start for those who are just starting out in the world of extreme sports, or those without much flying experience. Skydiving is rather more adrenaline-fuelled, but for those who couldn't imagine plummeting thousands of feet through the air, indoor skydiving is becoming increasingly popular: using a wind tunnel and a great deal of air pressure, it's possible to simulate speeds equivalent to 100+mph. Isn't technology wonderful? These are the kind of experiences that can live with you forever - making them great gift ideas that just keep on giving.

Of course, each of these sports comes with its own learning curve. Hang gliding trainers say it takes around ten days of flying in good weather to train a total newbie to the level of Club Pilot, but a great idea for a present would be a 2-day taster course, which would furnish the receiver with a good understanding of the basics, as well as a limited Elementary Pilot certificate - a flying gift experience!
