Capello’s Position Still Uncertain
The Real Madrid’s board of directives will wait on the report from the sporting department of the club. They will make recommendations as to whether Capello should stay on as coach or not.
The board has also expressed their wishes as for Bernd Schuster to take charge of the Real Madrid in the past, but other facts persuaded them that Capello was the man for the job.
From my position in the stands as a mere observer at the start of the season I thought Schuster would be a good idea for a coach, but I was convinced as well by the media and the directives that Fabio Capello was the right man to coach the Real Madrid and give them success. We needed someone who could clean out the dressing room, and bring order to the team and also win a trophy and Capello was capable of doing that. Mijatovic was right.
It was hard to understand that Capello's position was in doubt given that he took the Real Madrid to their first trophy in the last four years. It isn't regular on any sport that within 24 hours of winning the title people start talking about the future of the coach.
So despite taking the team to victory, apparently some did not like the way he directed the team, all through the tournament. Capello assured he will not take the dismissal without a fight. He has two years left on his contract and they will have to pay that off if they want him out.
