Plus Size Nightwear Selection Guide

The difference between waking up refreshed or feeling drained is what you wear to bed. Your quality of sleep can be determined by the style and fabric of your pajamas. If you are having problems resting at night, consider changing the style or fabric of your pajamas. The following information may be useful in determining what type of plus size pajamas are best for you.

Pajamas, often referred to as 'P.J.'s' or 'jammies', are the most classic of sleepwear styles. Pajamas can be found with shorts or long pants and a pullover or button-up shirt. Plus size pajamas come in a variety of fabrics and styles to suit nearly everyone. Pajamas bottoms and shorts that have a drawstring waist work well for those who need extra room in the hips, but not in the waist.

You might want to buy plus size pajamas in separate pieces, rather than as a set, in order to have the freedom of buying shirts or camisoles in a size different from the shorts, bottoms or panties that fit you most comfortably. Choose pajamas that do not have too many buttons, collars and other features that can cause discomfort while sleeping.

Formerly, plus size pajamas had little to offer the discriminating woman. They were either unflattering flannel "granny gowns" or sexy negligees. Today there are a wider variety of choices. Plus size nightgowns are available in a variety of styles, colors and fabrics.

There are various ways to flatter a small frame. You can raise your nightgown fabric up by a couple of inches by opting for nightgowns with adjustable straps or going for those with spaghetti straps that you can tie up as required. It isn't always possible to get a floor length nightgown of the exact length; this is where 'nighties', available in various lengths, come to the rescue. You can also pair up a longer length camisole with a pajama bottom.

Plus size women often prefer sleep shirts or night shirts, which are basically oversized tee shirts. Usually these pajamas are made from soft breathable knits, but sometimes plus size manufacturers offer this classic sleep shirt in satin or silk. Either way sleep shirts provide comfortable sleep attire.

Although the fit of pajamas is important, the fabric from which it is made should be considered. Make sure to pick fabrics that suit the climate and your body type. The best choice of material for those who enjoy being warm and cozy would be cotton flannel and synthetics, such as polyester. Those who are always warm and kicking the blankets off should look for loose fitting lightweight cotton pajamas.

When shopping for pajamas, the primary goal is to find maximum comfort and freedom of movement without restriction. This applies particularly in searching for plus size pajamas. Fabric is important. Cotton or silk both are good for allowing air flow. They are both natural fibers. Silk has a more slippery or gliding feel to it than cotton. They both add to the soothing effect.
