Simmons mith reaction in Aroma chemical industry
Simmons-Smith reaction in aroma chemical industry
Abstract:
This reaction involves the treatment of the double bond compound
with Dihalo-methane like Dibromomethane,Diiodo methane and
zinc-copper couple.
Details:
By using Simmons-Smith reaction, we can create a lot of new aroma chemicals having a broad spectrum olfactive properties. The Cyclopropylated products are found to have booster properties , higher chemical stabilities and better application properties.
The following are few of the available aroma chemicals, which have been Cyclopropylated .It is noticed that the products generated out of cyclopropylation are found to have better strengths and additional olfactive notes. All the cyclopropylated products have shown better chemical stability in fragrance formulations.
1] Citral - grassy,lemon type odour.
2] Melon aldehyde - melon,cucumber type note.
3] Methyl-2-nonenoate - floral green odour.
4] Linalool - sweet, floral.
5] Jasmone Cis - floral, green and jasmine type odour.
6] Ionone-Alpha and Gamma methyl ionone - floral, orris and violet notes.
7] Methyl-4-[2,2,3-trimethyl-3-cyclopenten-1-yl]butanol - sandalwood type odour.
8] 2-Methyl-4-[2,2,3-trimethyl-3-cyclopenten-1-yl]-2-buten-1-ol - creamy, sandal type note.
9] Citronellyl nitrile -lemon like odour.
10] Citronellol - floral, rose type odour.
11] trans-2-Hexenal - sharp, herbal-green odour.
12] 9-Decen-1-ol - dewy, rose note.
13] cis-3-Hexenol - a characteristic odour of freshly cut grass.
14] Methyl cinnamate - fruity, sweet-balsamic odour.
Hence, there is huge scope for the scientists working on synthetic aroma chemicals to explore this reaction i.e. Simmons-Smith reaction for inventing new aroma chemicals.
