Jatamanshi oil
Jatamanshi oil also known as Spikenard Oil is derived from the roots of Nardostachys Jatamansi. It belongs to family Valerianaceae.
The plant grows wild and is occasionally cultivated in India, China and Japan.
The dried roots are steam distilled in India ,Europe and U.S.A. The dried rhizomes are steam-distilled to yield between 1 - 2% of essential oil, commercially known as Spikenard oil in English.
The oil has a heavy, sweet-woody, spicy-animal odor and earthy base note.
It is used upto 2% in fragrance formulations.
It is used in perfumery such as oriental bases, heavy florals, fougeres, woody bases, animal, ambri types and in flavors as a modifier for valerian, hop, ginger, calamus, cardamom, etc.
It blends well with Tonka, Violet, Vetiver, Pine Needle,Patchouli.

The minor components in the oil are Alpha&Beta-pinene, Aristolenone, Cineole,etc.
