Visiting Yorkshire

Yorkshire is situated in northern England and it the largest county in Britain. The county of Yorkshire is considered to be one of the greenest areas in the country due to its vast rural countryside of its Yorkshire dales and the North York moors. These green areas have earned the county the nickname of “God’s own County”.
Yorkshire has played an important role throughout history, with the city of York being one of the roman’s capitals of Roman Britain and the area being declared as the “Kingdom of York” by the Vikings during the Norman period.
Yorkshire has a population of around 5 million and covers slightly less than 6000 square miles.
There are plenty of things to do and see in Yorkshire with its beautiful scenery making a great place to visit.
If you are a keen walker, Yorkshire has a great countryside and coastline for you to explore, from picturesque rolling hills and the stunning coastline to high rugged cliffs and expansive moors.
For the city folk out there, Yorkshire offers some great shopping opportunities with it perfect mix of old and new shops. The shops in Leeds are especially good and it has been dubbed “knightsbridge of the north” due to its designer and boutique shops. Sheffield is another good city for shopping, having malls and market and Meadowhall, one of Europe’s largest shopping centres.
If culture is your thing, then Yorkshire is ideal for taking in some great sights. Yorkshire is home to 2,663 ancient monuments and a collection of historic homes, gardens and religious sites. There are also a great selection of theatres, museums, art galleries and sculpture parks to broaden your horizons.
