Yorkshire has played an important role throughout history, with the city of York being one of the roman’s capitals of Roman Britain and the area being declared as the “Kingdom of York” by the Vikings during the Norman period.
Yorkshire has a population of around 5 million and covers slightly less than 6000 square miles.
