Self Catering in France

France and Western Europe offer a wide variety of holiday choices. You can enjoy all kinds of experiences ranging from superb extended holidays to short breaks, self catering holidays, skiing or camping holidays, gite or villa holidays, city explorations, chateau weekends, wine tours, gastronomic experiences, cycling holidays and a wide assortment of other active holidays to all regions of France or western Europe that are limited only by your imagination.

The deciding factor in planning your holiday is first choosing what type you desire. So for instance if you are interested in self catering holidays, one of the best places to start planning is the web. If you are specifically looking in France, the Self catering holiday can also be associated with staying in a gite. In French, gite is a name for vacation house. If you are planning a varied holiday where the first part of your trip involves visiting many different areas staying in a different hotel each night, reaching you’re your gite or villa will come as a welcome new phase of your holiday.

A place to relax and quite frankly, have a place where you can wash out your clothes and stay long enough for them to completely dry! So what about that travelling portion of your holiday? If you are the self catering holiday type those gigantic tour buses are not your style. These are several options for travel in France and throughout Western Europe. The classic is the Rail Pass. This choice is especially ideal since rail passes do not have set dates so travel can commence up to six months from the time of purchase. Another option is hiring a rental car. If you choose this option make sure your car insurance will cover the needed liability.

If you are driving specifically in France, another wrinkle to the rental car hire is the buyback lease. This unique arrangement on French “rental” cars allows you to choose a fully insured brand new car, drive it during your holiday and then return it. The lease buyback can be purchased for about the same price as a modest rental car but the car must be leased for at least seven days.
