A Day Trip to Terra Mitica Theme Park Benidorm

Last summer we had the best day out at Terra Mitica theme park.  Just one hours drive from Torrevieja on the virtually empty and new motorway (A7) it was a very easy journey.  There is even a direct exit from the motorway to Terra Mitica!

It was a great to spend a day of our holiday away from the pool.  The theme park is huge and although we visited during the day as the sun was not too hot, I do know you can purchase evening tickets, probably a good idea in July and August.  We also managed to pick up a Terra Mitica 2 for 1 special offer at the supermarket saving a fortune as there were eight of us going.

There really is something for everyone in Terra Mitica, I took my 3 year old son, and there was plenty for him to go on, and my Nanny was there and she had a selection of rides too that she braved!  Apart from rides there is plenty of entertainment from flamenco dancing, to controversially petting tiger cubs, and snakes.

Within the amusement park there are five themed areas; Egypt, Greece, Rome, Iberia, and the Islands.  They have really gone to town on each area for example in Rome not only is there Roman music but a full size Coliseum.  Each area has a mix of rides, restaurants, and shops, which I found to be useful, as it meant that the little one had something to go on throughout the day which kept him happy.  Also with restaurants being dotted around in every area Nanny could grab a drink and a seat whenever she liked.  There are allot more water rides than I have seen at other theme parks, and again there are some in each area.  So whenever we all got too hot we cooled off yet another water ride!  It is great to enjoy the water rather than feeling cold and wet like you do at English theme parks!  There are a handful of adrenaline rides which of course you can go on as often as you like throughout the day.

When we stopped for food, we were pleasantly surprised at the price.  We pretty much ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner there!  We ate burgers, burgers and more burgers but I do remember there being quite a good selection from pizzas, tapas, paella, a Greek restaurant, a breakfast restaurant, sandwiches and hotdogs, and much more.  There was even a bar that sold everything including cocktails.

The day we visited we did not queue for anything, the park was almost empty.  All I all thoroughly enjoyable and we shall definitely go again when we visit the family in Torrevieja this summer.
