A Destination Guide to Cyprus

Cyprus

History
Cyprus can be found in the North East of the Mediterranean and is the third largest island the first being Sicily and the second being Sardinia. Although the island is now a tourist spot it has a very vibrant history that includes Cleopatra and Alexander the Great. The island is still a very traditional place gathering culture from the Middle East and Europe but still strongly revolves around the Orthodox Church with festivals and celebrations. In the last decade Cyprus has become a top holiday choice as there is sun all year round.

Accommodation
There is accommodation to suit your needs whether it is a peaceful week in the hills or a resort hotel. The Hillside accommodation always has magnificent views and almost always has a private pool, where as the resorts are mainly by the sea closer to the towns and nightlife. It is definitely the best idea to book in advance as the accommodation is quickly taken up in the summer months. You can book online with The Self Catering Villa Rental Site which will give you a very good deal.

Travel
Because Cyprus is such a popular destination it has two international airports one in Paphos and one in Larnaca and flights arrive from all the major European cities. If you are coming to explore the Mediterranean then there are many ferry ports that connect Cyprus to Greece. If you wanted to explore the Island of Cyprus then one of the best ways to do this is hire a car online with the specialist car hire company, Car Rentals.co.uk. Driving on the roads is very simple because the roads are a good standard and all the signs appear in both English and Greek, and cars drive on the left.

Touring
There are many archaeological sites in Cyprus which attract many visitors; there are remains of cedar forests, and monasteries. There are some lovely countryside walks which are best to do in the cooler months to avoid heat stroke. The Kolossi Castle is also a must see attraction with views of plush vine yards.
