Eurostar – Traveling to France in Comfort
What is the Eurostar?
Eurostar is a high-speed train that transverses the Channel Tunnel in record ground time (two hours and 15 minutes from London to Paris). Rail service departs from London (St. Pancras International) with stops at Ebbsfleet and Ashford International and then continues through the Channel until it reaches France, with stops at Calais, Lille, and Paris. During the summer months, service runs weekly from the U.K. to Avignon (located in the Provence region of France). Travel time from London to Avignon is just over six hours. In the winter, you can enjoy the French Alps, as train service runs twice a week from the U.K. to Bourg St. Maurice and to Moutiers. Traveling from London to Bourg St. Maurice takes almost eight hours, while travel from London to Moutiers takes seven hours. If you’re looking for a real fun-filled vacation, Eurostar also has a direct stop at Disneyland’s Paris resort.
Prices
Prices are competitive with airline tickets, but the real bargains occur if you book your tickets at least three-weeks in advance with an overnight weekend included. These fares start at about £70 for a roundtrip ticket, a real steal in today’s overly priced travel industry.
Facilities
Eurostar has both standard and first class sections (with appropriate price differences). Standard features include an air-conditioned coach with a refreshment bar. First class coaches feature wider reclining seats and a full, free three-course meal. Either way, you’ll travel to your destination in class and comfort. You’ll experience none of the usual hassles (i.e. lengthy transfers and delays) that you would at a large international airport, and you’ll arrive relaxed and ready to enjoy your sightseeing.
