Tips to select a gown for the New Year’s Eve

New Year’s evening is always a special occasion when one unfailingly wants to look at her best without taking a single chance. She also likes to have a change in her attire and wear a new style to go with the mood of the New Year. It’s an occasion when one brings a change to her looks and attempts a new attitude different from what she had been doing all through the last years.

It’s party time. Every woman wants to look especially gorgeous and elegant for this occasion and selecting the perfect gown or dress takes priority. The following are some tips for choosing a gown to compliment your figure and fit the occasion.

Ø      While selecting a formal gown for the New Year’s Eve, the colors that are highly recommended include darker colors such as black, silver, gold, burgundy, dark blue and dark green. The color should compliment your skin tone, hair color and body shape.

Ø      You should avoid spaghetti straps, puffy sleeves, clingy fabrics, ruffles, and tulle skirts.

Ø      Fuller figured women should choose a gown that is A-line silhouette, or has a full skirt. Avoid sweetheart necklines, strapless gowns and jewel necklines which will make your bust look bigger.

Ø      You should find a gown that has a lot of detailing near the neckline to draw attention to your face. But avoid too much detail or beading on the bodice as it will give you the appearance of being heavier. It is better to wear long sleeves which can take attention away from heavier arms.

Ø      The best waistline for the fuller figured women is one that forms a V two to three inches below the natural waist. It narrows both the waist and hips and is quite flattering.

Ø      It’s a good idea to select a gown with details on the bodice, but have a plain skirt to keep attention away from your larger hips. Avoid bows in the back of your dress at hip level.

Ø      It is recommended to wear a ball gown silhouette which accentuates the waist and hides hips, if you are pear shaped. Off the shoulder necklines help make your figure look more proportionate. Other necklines that will give a more proportionate look are jewel necklines which will make your bust look bigger, a V-neckline or a bateau neckline.
