Fashion And Syle In Plus Size Dresses

Stanley Tucci's character, seasoned designer Nigel, in The Devil Wears Prada was a remarkably accurate portrayal of those working in the fashion industry. In the movie his character berated Anne Hathaway's character, Andy Sachs, because she was unwilling to starve herself to achieve a smaller size while explaining that size two was now the new size four and zero was the new size two.

The surreal depiction of the fashion industry as a whole does not make sense in a country where a size 14 is your average American woman's true size. Being healthy and a size 0 are normally opposite of each other and you shouldn't deprive yourself of life in order to be beautiful. It is important that you dress to accommodate your figure so that you not only feel great but look great, and exude confidence in one total package.

Follow these simple rules to feel as elegant as a model every day! Clingy, heavy fabrics are out--they stick to the hips ungracefully instead of flowing the way clothes should. For a forgiving, versatile and amazingly flattering choice, try a wrap dress. This is a truly superb invention which is both stylish and comfortable.

If you feel that your arms are a problem area, you should avoid clothes with bubble sleeves. The combination of puffy excessive fabric and cinching elastic will only draw additional attention to that area where many women already feel tremendously self-conscious.

Wisely follow the belt trend. This year belts have been the "in" thing, dressing up last year's fashions that were bland with a new flair. Avoid pieces that are over the top and gaudy and pay attention to the area in which the belt will be placed. If you are heavy in the thighs and belly, the belt should fit firmly around the ribs. Don't cinch the belt tightly as it is not flattering and very uncomfortable.

Be careful to select the right high boots for you. While high boots look excellent with dresses, if you are short or have a pear-shaped figure, make sure your boots have a heel: the increased height lengthens the legs, allowing you to stand tall with style and elegance. Pair your high boots with an empire waist dress and you're set for a night on the town; the empire waist falls just above the natural waist, allowing bottom-heavy women to look fabulous.

Choose a fabric which is understated and dignified. Don't be taken in by that old wives tale that says you can only wear black if you want to appear slim. While you should avoid wild prints and horizontal stripes, a little color won't hurt anything, especially if you opt for such colors as warm shades of rust, brown, and green.

The most important thing to remember is to own your style. Choose dresses that make you look as great as you feel and you can float from work, out to dinner or even to cocktail party with a few choice pieces.
