HD radio is a combination of digital and AM signals. The signals are bundled and the digital signal is compressed. The HD radio is a special radio that can receive the special HD signal. The same program is broadcast on the AM analog and the AM digital signal. The digital AM will be near FM quality and digital FM will be near CD quality. The digital HD signal is great radio listening. If the digital AM signal is lost the radio will revert back to the AM analog signal.
