Vacation in South Carolina
South Carolina is a beautiful state with the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the mountains to the west. There is always something to see, do and take part in no matter where you are traveling or for how long. Here are some fun events for the month of February.
The Clemson Shakespeare Festival is an annual event at Clemson University. Every year they look at different aspects of Shakespeare and feature discussions and lectures on Shakespeare. There are also student productions and film screenings that round out the whole event.
The Gullah Celebration is an annual event on Hilton Head Island. The event runs through most of February and showcases the arts, crafts, foods and history of the Native Island Gullah people. The original Gullah people were African slaves that were sent across the Atlantic from West Africa. They went to work on the cotton plantations of the South and meanwhile the people developed their own culture, which became known as Gullah. With the culture that they developed came a mix of language, superstitions, and folktales that are still with the families of today.
The Central Carolina Community Foundation invites all to attend the annual International Festival of Wines and Food in Columbia. There are several wines that are tasted from several different regions of the world. Wine industry experts are available for educating guests on wines from Australia, Argentina, Chile, France, South Africa, Italy, Spain and other countries. Good wine needs good gourmet food and several delicious foods will be offered in conjunction with the wine tasting from several local restaurants. You also will not want to miss the cooking demonstrations. As the wining and dining winds down you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee or cordials such as a single malt scotch, cognac or brandy along with some desserts. Attendees will also have the opportunity to bid on several vintage and reserve wines at a silent auction.
