Don’t Waste Money on Kitchen Cutlery Sets…Until You Read This Article

Seeking 1 or 2 fine kitchen cutlery sets? Then begin your research on the various knives you’ll need. You’ll need more than one knife as each knife has its own purpose.

The following are the knives you’ll need:

The Cook’s Knife

The Chef’s, or Cook’s, Knife is used for tough tasks like chopping and dicing when preparing food. Its about, on average, 9 inches long. So that you can easily use it on a cutting board, it has a rounded shaped blade. Consider this knife as your “mule” in that it does the difficult jobs. But, unfortunately for the Chef’s knife, it is best known as the knife that Michael Myers used in the movie Halloween.

The Bread Knife

I’m sure you already know the Bread Knife’s life purpose in any of the good kitchen cutlery sets. Correct! To slice bread. It’s 8 inches long.

The Paring Knife

At only three inches long, you may think the Paring Knife doesn’t bring much value to your kitchen cutlery set. However, don’t underestimate it. You’ll use it for coring and peeling, which, as any chef knows, is an imperative kitchen task.

The Utility Knife

The Utility Knife, ranging in length from 4 to 7 inches, has fallen out of favor with chefs. It’s too large for exact tasks, which is the Paring Knife’s domain and too small to compete with the Chef’s Knife for the title of work horse.

The Steak Knife

The Steak Knife is used to cut the meat at meal time. Thus it’s looked fondly upon as it literally works to put food on the plates of hungry family members.

The Cleaver

Then there’s the scary looking Cleaver, which is rectangular in shape with a blade of 6 inches in length. It’s used for chopping and is durable enough to cut through bone, when necessary.

The Boning Knife

A Boning Knife, with its flexible blade, is ideal for removing bones from meat. Unlike the above mentioned cleaver, which cuts through bone, the boning knife worms its way into small places and literally “ejects” the bone from the meat. It’s about 6 inches long.

The Fillet Knife

If you’re a fish eater, then you absolutely can’t do without the Fillet Knife in your kitchen cutlery set. It’s a larger version, coming in at ten inches in length, of the Boning Knife.

As you can see, you’ll need more than one knife in any of the kitchen cutlery sets you might buy. But now that you have done your research, you are in a position to choose a top kitchen cutlery set. Happy cooking!
