Find The Right Bathtub In 6 Easy Steps

There are hundreds of different kinds of bathtubs available in the markets today, all of varying styles, which is why selecting the right one for your home is not a very simple task. As tubs come in several different styles and kinds, you need to ensure that you choose one that is in keeping with what you want so that you can enjoy your tub thoroughly. Thus, this article lists all the factors that need to be considered when choosing a bathtub so that you end up buying the ideal one.

1) Functionality: Before going from store to store looking at different tubs, make sure you know what all you need the bathtub for, besides regular bathing of course. Different bathtubs have different features and functions, so make sure you will use all the features of a particular tub. For example, whirlpool tubs can tempt anyone as they look so comfortable and fascinating and you may end up buying one simply due to the novelty of the jets. However, will you really be using those jets? Can you justify the increased electricity expense and extra water wastage? If not, stay away from the whirlpool tub and buy one that has features which are more in keeping with your needs.

2) Tub size: A properly sized bathtub is an absolute must. You neither want your tub to be so small that you do not fit in it, nor do you want it to be so big that there is unnecessary usage of water. While considering the size of the bathtub, you also need to decide whether you want a one person tub or one which can fit two people. If you like to get cozy with your partner, then you may want to indulge and get yourself a two person tub. However, if your bath time is a time when you like to read or be thoughtful, you should go in for a one person bath tub.

3) Color and style: Yes, it is true that the functionality and features of the bathtub are what you should primarily look at, but dont overlook its look, color, and style in the process. You do not want a bathtub that does not match in color and style to the other fixtures in your bathroom as that will make your bath look very uninviting. Thus, do ensure that the bathtub has good aesthetic appeal as well.

4) Construction material: Not all tubs are made from the same material. Different materials used to make bathtubs are - Acrylic, Marble, Porcelain tubs, Wood, Cast iron tubs, and Fiberglass. A fiberglass bath tub is quite an inexpensive buy but is less durable than cast iron or porcelain bath tubs. Cast iron tubs will practically last you for generations but can be very pricey also. As far as looks go, nothing can beat wood and marble bathtubs, but these are extremely difficult to maintain and keep clean. Thus, depending on what your topmost priorities are (durability, strength, looks, cost etc), you should choose a construction material accordingly.

5) Soaking or standard: The difference between a standard bathtub and a soaking tub is that the soaking variety is much deeper and enables you to immerse your entire body into the warm water instead of just your lower half. And since tubs are now being used for their therapeutic value as they help lower stress, relieve pain, and lower hypertension, you need to decide whether you want such a tub or not. If you do, then you will be better off buying a soaking tub instead of a regular bathtub.

6) Special Needs: People who are old or those who have some kind of handicap may often have to forgo the pleasures of bathing in a tub as they may find it difficult to use a regular bathtub. If you or someone in your family has such special needs, you should consider getting a bathtub that is ADA compliant. Such bathtubs are made in such a way so as to afford easy entry and exit for the handicapped and the elderly. They even have grab bars and grab rails for added protection while using the bathtub. Some models can even be used by people who are restricted to wheelchairs.

In addition to all the above, your budget is also a factor while buying a bathtub. One thing that you must do before making your final selection is to actually lie down in the bathtubs that you have short listed. This way, you can be sure that it is the right size and also gives the maximum comfort, while having adequate support for your neck, back, and head.

By considering all the above factors before buying a bathtub, choosing the perfect one will be a breeze!
