2009 Mazda 6

The Mazda 6

Mazda changed the way that the world viewed their automobiles around 2002 with an ingenious and very catchy little ad campaign. Two little words – “Zoom, Zoom” made the drivers of the world look at commuting as if it were something that we could enjoy again. The campaign put Mazda back on the map as a serious contender in the ultra competitive world of automobile sales.

More than half a decade has gone by, and 2008 brought about the first retooling of the car that started it all in 2002, the Mazda 6.

The new Mazda 6 wasn’t built on the exact same ideology as its predecessor, the new and improved model is a bit more of a grown up version of the car that drivers fell in love with in 2002. Lovers of the road shouldn’t despair though, the 6 is still just as much fun to drive as the car that gave us “Zoom, Zoom”, it’s just a little more conscientious

The 2008 6 gives us the option of two engines to choose from just like it’s predecessor – a 2.0 liter, which is the same size that came standard with previous models, but this new model tops out at a very impressive 212 kilometers per hour without sacrificing fuel economy. The new 2.0 engine will net 100k per seven liters, which is more than ten percent more efficient than the previous version.

The bigger, more powerful 2.5 liter, four cylinder engine which replaces a 2.3 liter in the older model is reported to net 100k per 8.1 liters which makes the new engine about seven percent more efficient than the smaller 2.3 liter engine that it is replacing.

The appearance of the new 2008 Mazda 6 is another area where the car manufacturer certainly didn’t disappoint. The controls are set up crisply and cleanly in a way that is easy for the driver to navigate right from the start – there won’t be any bumbling or fumbling, searching around for controls that are everywhere but where they should be. Unlike some of the automobiles in this class that have recently undergone a makeover, Mazda chose not to make the interior of the new 6 gaudy, outlandish or over the top. The new 6 simply has clean, attractive controls outlined is basic aluminum giving the driver’s seat a cool captain’s chair type of feel – one word comes to mind on the set up of the interior, “organized.”

The base model Mazda 6 for 2008 comes standard with a four speaker in dash CD player/stereo, air conditioning and sixteen inch rims – relatively basic but as the trim levels go up, the options become plentiful.

The next step up in the chain, the 2.0 Active has quite a few upgrades included, like: a six CD changer, leather upholstery, automatic wipers, a climate control system with automatic air conditioning, cruise control, 17 inch alloy wheels and an onboard computer system that tracks your trip data.

If the 2.0 Active wasn’t enough, the 2.5 liter Dynamic (available in automatic only) comes with a push button starter and “smart key” that doesn’t even have to be taken out of your pocket to be used, a power sunroof, 18 inch alloy wheels and stability and traction control.

It’s also good to know that with all of the above mentioned amenities, you won’t at all be sacrificing your safety by driving the new Mazda 6. All versions of the new 6 come standard with anti-lock brakes that have electronic pressure distribution, six airbags and emergency stop assistance.

As always with Mazda, the new six will not only protect you while you’re behind the wheel, but your wheels will be well protected. Mazda has a four year or 120,000 kilometer warranty, a five year or 90, 000 kilometer service plan and three years of roadside assistance.

In 2008 Mazda managed to take a six year solid history with the 6 and improve upon it. The new Mazda 6 is more attractive, more efficient and has a roomier interior. They’ve managed to do all this without sacrificing the driver’s safety or without cheating customers out of a great warranty and service plan and, possibly the best part about it – is that they did it without sacrificing the one thing that drivers had begun to associate with Mazda, an particularly with the Mazda 6 – making the commute something to look forward to. Six years gone by and one major overhaul and Mazda is still succeeding in helping their customers to have fun – Zoom, Zoom.
