Travelling light with your family
Travelling Light with your Family on Vacation
Travel Light and you be more present to the
wonders of the world and maybe even pick up a few
epiphanies along the way about… well, about
almost anything and everyone including yourself.
Believe me if you follow the above suggestion you
gain in ways I could never know. And you will
gain the respect of your family for your road
wisdom. Your motto should be "LEAVE IT AT HOME!"
If you can buy it at your destination - do it!
Leave clothes, cameras (yes cameras, I buy the
little light digital ones available all over the
globe now), make up (why are you getting away if
you need the same face where you are going?),
books, guides, cell phones (I know this is a BIG
one, but unless you are going to be gone more
than two weeks -TAKE A BREAK! You will be AMAZED
at how free you will be NOT being called or
calling anyone!) .
Rediscover who you and your family can be without
all our cultural techno entrapments! Tune in,
turn on to the simple wonders of (as that GREAT
philosopher - Alan Watts - so eloquently spoke
about) DOING NOTHING! This is a great way to
health and wonder and yes, happiness! Sleep more,
take a walk going NOWHERE and leave your cell
phone back in Detroit.
Less is more. Just take ready cash the amount
dependent on where you are going and the length
of your stay a credit card and your medicines.
That is it all, everything! And teach these
common sense ways to your kids (who always
require more "stuff"), and they will reward you
with less stress and more quiet, sleep time and
better meals.
Family vacations are best if one cultivates an
attitude of detachment from outcomes. And this is
most easily obtained by leaving things at home.
So choose a great travel agent and cruise line
and airline and pay the extra buck up front to do
this. And it is crucial at this point to ASK FOR
EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT UP FRONT! You will thank me
and yourself many times if you do this and you
will save you and your family from the stress of
changing airlines or hotels (or rooms), or scuba
lessons etc…. later on.
So get out there as the big wide world waits and
is waiting for your smiling face! And DON'T BRING
YOUR TOOTHBRUSH! Well maybe you can pack your
toothbrush, but LEAVE EVERYTHING ELSE AT HOME!
Have fun:
