Tips on improving your memory

We all admire the individuals that remember everything they want to say as they engage in conversations.

Of course you may not have any trouble remembering remote memories, including those of your childhood while you tend to forget more recent events like the names of people you've met recently. The cause may be the loss of brain cells, bad blood circulation in the brain and the lack of certain necessary chemicals.

The fact is that you begin to lose cells in the brain a few at a time when you're in your 20s and the loss of brain cells increases as you grow older. You see as the years pass your body makes less of the chemicals your brain cells need to work with the efficiency. Naturally the older you become the more these deficiencies can affect your memory.

So to avoid losing your memory and to bring back the ability to remember names, dates and more, you should eat the following nine natural substances in a continuous basis. You can bank on it; if you start eating them today, you will be glad you did for the rest of your life.

Here they are:

1. Acetylcholine

Important brain chemical that helps improve memory and the ability to think. Such chemical comes from phosphatidyl-choline found in lecithin. Two sources of lecithin are soybeans and sesame seeds.

2. DMA (Dimethylamino-ethanol)

3. Phosphatidyl-serine

Revitalizes nerve cells. Has shown to slow cognitive loses due to aging.

4. Vinpocetine (Periwinkle extract).

Enhances memory and concentration.

5. Amino acids (Arginine, glutamine, methionine, and others).

These building blocks of proteins are responsible for several functions of the nervous system.

6. Ginkgo biloba

Makes the blood thinner therefore contributing to circulation through the narrowest capillaries in the brain. The Blood supply brings oxygen to the brain that increases its functions to stop loss of memory.

7. Ginseng This herb improves mental functions and stamina as well as physical endurance.

8. Proanthocyanidin (Extracted from grape seeds or pine bark).

An antioxidant that protects the brain and the central nervous system. Known to strengthen the blood vessel walls and to increase circulation.

9. Proanthocyanidin

Helps prevent ischemia in brain tissue and reduces mental deterioration.

Things to help you remember.

" Keep lists.

" Follow a routine.

" Make associations. Associate in your mind what you want to remember to landmarks for example.

" Book things to do in a calendar.

" Keep your things like eye glasses and keys in the same spot all the time.

" When you are introduced to new people, mentally or verbally repeat their names.

" Be consciously in the present when you are doing something.

" Repeat several times the names of people, places and things that you usually forget.
