We Are Being Called
We Are Being Called
First: We are being called to be awake and conscious.
If anything, this year has told us that we ca no longer live life “as usual.”
There are things that are beyond our control (I know, I know, that illusion is so hard to pop). What we can do is meet each today with as much awareness and presence as we can remember to bring to the moment and let that become the basis for whatever action we take.
This is the great hope for our world….that one-by-one, we become just a bit more aware, and thus more compassionate and real. What if each of us evolved by just one degree? What would that look like? You know what? We have the enormous capacity to do just that. This is what we were born to do—now.
Second: Check in with yourself--how are you doing?
What is your experience of yourself amidst the enormous change that we are so clearly in? How are you meeting it? From the macro level change that we hear or read about everyday to the ripples and waves moving through our personal lives and those of family, friends, colleagues and neighbors, it can be easy to have our very core shaken. So, how are you doing with it?
Your well-being is an integral part of the web of evolution. How are you taking care of yourself? Please create some space for you, time to renew yourself, a time to get in touch with various aspects of yourself, time to heal whatever needs your attention. This is no longer a ‘nice thing to do for yourself,’ but a prerequisite for being able to bring your whole self to the living of this life.
Third: Who we hang out with makes a difference.
Being involved with others who are committed to their journey of awakening is vital to gaining and giving support and honest and loving feedback, as well as sharing in the cosmic humor that is part of this journey. In my spiritual community, we call these “essence friends,” because the quality of presence-based conversation, inquiry, sharing and care lifts us all. A group of my Enneagram students have decided that their relationships are so vital to their well-being, that they have independently chosen to meet together in-between our regular sessions.
The more we commit ourselves to our growth journey, the more that others who are on similar paths find their way into our lives. You are not alone, I assure you. I encourage you to make space in your life for these important human reminders of ‘who you are’ and why you are here.
As a final note,
There is no moment that does not hold sacredness, if we but remember to hold it as such. This season is a particularly poignant time to call ourselves to attention, to let ourselves be stunned into silence and awe by simply noticing the preciousness of life and by the awareness of the beauty and love that is available to us in every moment.
May you abide in abundant blessings and light during this holiday season.
