Taking Good Care of Your Back

If it’s a choice between taking a job that involves standing up all day, or a job where you can sit down the whole time, the chances are you would choose the chair – for obvious reasons. However even the best chair can give you backache if you aren’t getting up and getting around at all.

Many office workers are now discovering the benefits of shiatsu, which literally means ‘finger pressure’. It is an Eastern technique otherwise known as acupressure and helps to ease any back pain experienced by poor posture or constantly being in the same position.

There are shiatsu therapists who will visit your place of work to give you a shiatsu massage during your lunch hour – a great way to set yourself up for the afternoon, and make sure you don’t develop permanently bad posture.

There is one small problem with this option however – it doesn’t fall into everyone’s budget. Even though a single session isn’t overly expensive, the cost can soon mount up if it is used as a regular treatment. That’s why more and more people are taking advantage of the electronic version of a shiatsu masseur, and buying the right piece of equipment to do it for them.

A homedics chair enables you to turn any chair into a portable and instant shiatsu massage chair. This aspect makes it ideal to take into the office with you, to attach to your normal chair during your lunch hour.

It is also perfect for use at home, and as with many alternative treatments you will get the most benefit from it if you use it on a regular basis. The massage programs help to knead out any knots in the muscles in your back, and it can be a great way to wind down after a hard day at the office.

If you have a stressful job you’ll probably notice from time to time that you feel stiff with aching muscles, especially when you get up in the mornings. This is a sure sign that you are not sitting correctly; it can also point to feeling tense, as this tends to cause us to tighten up our muscles without even realising. A massage chair not only gets rid of those knots in your back, it also makes you feel much more relaxed. The more you use it the more you will benefit in both the short and the long term.

Of course there is no substitute for sitting correctly and keeping your back straight to begin with. Always ensure you have the right height chair for your needs and buy a new one if you find your current one uncomfortable. Your back needs to last for life, and the use of a good chair – with a shiatsu massager attached – will go a long way towards making that happen.
