Abdomen Massage - Starting Out

Some people are nervous about having their abdomen massaged. I believe this is because they carry tension there, and exposing the abdomen makes them feel vulnerable. However, once the joys of a good abdominal massage have been experienced, most people are converted. I teach a gentle, relaxing abdominal massage, which calms the nerves and stimulates the digestive system. If you suffer from stomachache - caused by tension, indigestion, or menstrual pain an abdominal massage can soothe it away. The relaxing strokes can also relieve constipation. Abdominal massage is useful for weight-watchers it makes them more aware of the area and helps them be more conscientious about sticking to a diet.

Starting out

If your partner is nervous about the idea of abdominal massage, begin by stroking over the towel. Just stroke around the navel area and your partner will gradually relax to your calming touch. When you massage the abdomen, all your movements should be gentle and sensitive.

If your partner is pregnant, check with her doctor before massaging her abdomen. See the massage instructions in Chapter "This sporting life", since a slightly different technique is used for pregnant women.

Stroking

Kneel beside your partner and place a pillow under the knees to help relax the back and stomach muscles.

Face toward your partner's head and place your hands side by side on the lower abdomen, with your fingers pointing toward the head. Stroke slowly up to the ribs, keeping the pressure even.

When you reach the ribs, pull your hands out to the sides, and glide them down. Mold your hands to the curves of the body, making sure you, don't leave any parts untouched.

Pull your hands firmly up and in at the sides of the waist, then swivel around to start again. Keep the movement flowing and continuous, and repeat at least six times.
