Musician Referral - Which Tips You Should Know
There are many places to look for a musician referral, and I know there are many on Internet. The difficulty is getting a musician who resides close to your place, and someone who has talent and the will to invest time for the good of the group. There are many good singers out there, but styles and personalities do not always mesh. That could be the difficult part of a musician referral. Some want to give more time than others, and some have no idea of what it means to be in a music group. Good singers obviously find each other, but it is harder than it looks.
If you have to utilize a musician referral, first make sure to be explicitly clear about what you are expecting for in a group mate. You may need a guitar player, but do you need a musician that has their own transportation? You have to consider about when you perform. Will they be able to show every session? You also have to consider the equipment. Do they have everything they need? What expertise do they have? Do they like the same style of music? Do they have obligations that could keep them from showing? Those are all good issues that should be answered when using a musician referral.
It might sound discouraging to recrute an artist through a musician referral, but it is a good way to go about it. Don't forget to give it time, and don't just take the first person that responds without finding out if they are a fine match. My boyfriend told me that the best musician referral is other bands, and he doesn't mean asking them if they know someone. Bands steal musicians from other bands all the time. It's not quite fair, but it seems to be part of the deal. Best of luck to you and enjoy your search into discovering a good musician match.
