Trottagrams - The New Way to Birthday
Recently a new birthday song was released via website as a free online greeting card service. It is one of the myriad of websites offering FREE Birthday cards to people (or an upgraded personalized version for a small fee). What sets this site apart from others is not cutting edge graphics. In fact the cards are quite simple, some might even argue tacky. The best thing that this site has going for it is a catchy little tune that gets stuck in your ear after hearing it. Michael Trotta composed this Birthday Song fifteen years ago to find a quick gift for an aunt whose birthday had just passed. A public school music educator, Michael found himself teaching the song to his students instead of the traditional Happy Birthday song. He found that its upbeat tempo and repetitive lyrics resonated with thousands of students that he came in contact with over the past 15 years. He decided to copyright the song and record it with his other two brothers, Ken and Dave. The result of this effort can now be found at the site listed at the end of this article. Sources have suggested a major media blitz for this song including appearances on Letterman, Opera, Leno, Conan O'Brien , to name a few. Already the song has started to take root with the college crowd who has started forwarding these e-cards to all of their friends. The major advantage that this site offers is the ability to set up a free card to be delivered at anytime in the next year. This allows someone to take a few minutes in one afternoon and remember all of the birthdays that will occur for the next year. This means no more loved ones getting angry because of a missed birthday. No more belated birthday cards. The Trottagram takes care of this in advance. Whether or not this song will become the New Birthday Song, or "New Way to Birthday" as the creators suggest remains to be seen. However, it is possible that my children will be singing, "Happy, Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday to you . . ." to their children. Decide for yourself . . .
