The Frequency of Your Advertising
The best ad in the world won’t always do its job if you send it out at the wrong time. Knowing when to advertise is going to be just as important as knowing what kind of advertisement you should use.
Many companies attempt to advertise heavily and consistently throughout the entire year. The only way this would ever have a chance of being successful was if you had a massive marketing budget to work with. That way you could consistently put out high quality and high priced advertisements to always keep your company close to people’s thoughts.
Of course, smaller companies aren’t going to have a budget for something like this, and would likely only be able to consistently release smaller advertisements that would have hardly any success. By focusing your marketing in certain ways and getting your color printing done at the right times, you can make the same marketing budget have a much larger impact.
Look for when the busiest seasons are for your company and start your advertising a month or so before. For some companies this may be a fairly obvious path to take. After all, if you sell swimming pools you aren’t likely to worry about advertising a lot during November or January.
But a lot of companies seem to think that they don’t need to advertise around their busy time because they’re already going to be getting business. The problem is your competition is also going to be getting business, which is why getting your color printing done in advance is so important. You can put your company name in people’s minds before they need your services.
If your company doesn’t have a particularly prominent busy season you might try a different approach of launching a single, large advertising campaign followed by a prolonged, smaller effort.
Now, what this does is get your name out to people with an initially big marketing blitz. Once people are thinking about you, you can pull your marketing back and only use smaller advertisements that keep your name prevalent.
The benefits of this approach is that you can save on color printing costs by pulling back your marketing after the initial push, yet you can still get the steady business that comes with the bigger advertisements.
If you want to do something a little more consistent, you might focus on quarterly advertisements instead. Similar to focusing on a peak season, you can center a lot of your attention and money on a single quarter, or release heavy advertisements at the beginning of each quarter in order to get people excited.
As the owner of your business you’re going to have the best ability to judge when the right times are to advertise. You just need to remember that you have to pay as much attention to the timing of your ads as you do to the ads themselves.
