SEO - Basic
If you are in a position where you’re looking to get in google rankings, then I have some advice for you and it is only based on my experience so use it with caution!
First step is link link link! Yes sadly you have a lot of work ahead of you but if SEO it important to you then it is time worth spent.
Get yourself listed on as many directories as possible but remember to only submit to a category that matches your site content. A prime example of this would be: “web design” you would not submit your site to a category that is for “pets” so remember to ensure you select the correct category!
When linking to another site, remember to check their page rank first! I have seen many sites offering links but later found they had a low or no page rank at all and that is no good for your site!
Quality is far better then quantity as many SEO advisors will tell you (well the ones not trying to get your money and run)
Your site design is also very important when it comes to SEO. The golden rule: Title tag is very important so label it well! Do not use over the top keywords as this is called keyword stuffing and some sites will not link to sites that keyword stuff so remember: Keyword stuffing is considered to be an unethical search engine optimization
Also keep a list of all the sites and directories you submit your site to. This is important for your tracking as some sites remove your links after awhile and you need to know when this happens. There are scripts out there that can help with this.
I hope this has been helpful to you and as I said this is from my own experience and it maybe right or it maybe wrong but in any light I am only trying to help others so they can pass it on.
