Optimising your website for the Search Engines

SEO or search engine optimisation is the practice of creating or modifying a web site so it can be properly read and indexed by search engines. A search engine optimisation team have the task of understanding how to present information on your website so that search engines are able to determine the value of your website.

Staying ahead in search engine results can be difficult, which is why SEO is so important. When you think about the fact that there are over 21 billion web pages fighting for the best positions within the search engines you can get an idea of how much work and effort is going to have to go into getting your site into the top positions, especially if your website is a new one.

Search engine optimisers (the professionals behind the work carried out on your website) will write the content that will be placed on your site as well as all of the promotional articles that will be posted around to varies article sites containing a link that takes the reader back to your site. They may also design a site so that it is text rich and has the phone number and an enquiry form in the hot spot areas. Also a content management system might be added. All of these aspects are what is carried out within search engine optimisation, especially the content writing part.

One of the main jobs performed by a search engine optimisation team is writing all of the text that is placed on your website. This text will reflect the keywords that surround your products or services and will be wrote with these keywords in mind so that when a search is conducted a person will type in these keywords and the search engine will then match these words with the words on your website and as a result your website will appear higher within the search engine results. Once the text is completed for your website the promotion will begin, which means articles will be produced about various aspects of the products or services that you are offering and on these articles links will be placed that takes a person back to your website. The point of this is to drive traffic to your site as well as to get links back to your site, both of which will help with your search engine positioning.

The text of your website is one of the most important aspects if you are hoping to perform well within the search engines. Search engines often turn a blind eye to what you might assume are some of the web's most attractive pages. Just think of the tools many designers use to make web pages exciting. Great illustrations, stunning photos, animation and music; if this is what your website mainly consists of then you may have a problem as the world's most important search engine spiders might well crawl right past your site through lack of text.

When SEO is being performed on your website it should be done in what is known as a white hat manner. This is a technique demonstrating the good design and structure of a website and using Google’s guidelines. White hat techniques produce search engine ranking results that last. It is summed up as creating content for users and not for search engines only after this is done can search engine spiders really find the website pages easily.
