The Mystery Shopping Providers Association (MSPA) of North America offers various types of Mystery Shopping certifications. This provides one with the basic skills and specific knowledge of Mystery Shopping. If you are a novice to the industry, then these programs can be beneficial. The certifications tests ensure you are up to scratch with Mystery Shopping jobs, before your engagement in a real scenario. Something to keep in mind is, certification may help you build your Mystery Shopping skills, and it does not guarantee a Mystery Shopping job. The advantage of being a certified Secret Shopper is that you get an edge over the non-certified Shoppers and enhance your chances to a wider range of Mystery Shopping jobs.
Is Mystery Shopping certification mandatory? No.
However many companies will only select Mystery Shoppers with certification. Certification is an added advantage to Mystery Shoppers, it is not mandatory to get certified before you start your Mystery Shopping career. There are a lot of Mystery Shoppers in the industry who are not certified and still doing well.
