How to choose a Dissertation Topic
Students in Bachelor and Master Programs are required to write a dissertation before graduation. Choosing a dissertation topic can be challenging, difficult and bothersome at times. Since there is always a deadline to complete your dissertation, you must choose a topic carefully. First thing that you must keep in mind is that don't choose a topic if you are not interested in it. It will only aggravate the situation. In order to choose a topic, think about research you have done before. You must choose a topic that intrigues you. It should be pertinent to the work you have already done or intend to do in near future as it will keep you from changing your mind. Your dissertation topic will lead you to research an area that you find interesting. Choose a topic that can be feasible and could be completed before the deadline. Do not choose an idea or topic that is too broad or too big for a dissertation. Choose a topic that is convenient for you to write. Ask yourself a few questions when you choose a topic. 1) Do you have friends and colleagues who could be of some assistance in this regard? 2) Do you have access to resources that could be utilized to complete your dissertation? If the faculty in your department is not aware of the topic you chose, you will have trouble finding dissertation support. The time factor is also very important when it comes to writing a dissertation. Some topics might take a year or so to complete. Some may take a couple of months to finish. Therefore, you should be mindful of this fact and select a topic that will enable you to finish the task ahead of time. Since it is a must to write a dissertation before your degree can be awarded, you must carefully choose a topic. Failing to do so will not only waste your precious time but you will end up starting from scratch again. Therefore, it is a must to choose a topic that will keep you fascinated.
