Austin is located on the Colorado River, a series of dams have created some lakes that are very convenient for everything from water reservoirs to boating and recreation. It is known for a high rate of left-wing politics for Texas, as well as a large amount of live popular music, mainly around the University of Texas. Other hi-tech and computer companies in town are Apple Computers, Intel, the computer chip maker and Sun Microsystems.
Various initiatives of the state government, such as the Texas Enterprise Fund which has $295 million available to it, and the Texas Emerging Technology Fund, have helped invest state money into projects to help new Texas businesses. The Funds can be used for infrastructure development, job training and other pro-business uses.
