Trying To Market Yourself
Self promotion is a very difficult thing for me as I am sure it is for many people. I would find it much easier to promote someone else's work than to extoll the virtues of mine. I am not sure why that is.
It is not that I do not believe in my own abilitites or think that my artwork is inferior, I just am rather shy and do not like to draw attention to myself. I do not want to do all the things like gallery openings and making the sales pitches to sell my creations. I have a hard time just to approach a gallery or even to join an art association.
However, I have recently made a major move, mainly with the idea that a larger center will have many more opportunities for me to get my artwork seen and sold. This week I am going to make a concerted effort to find and join local art associations and visit the local galleries with my portfolio. I did send several entries in to a competion this year and will hopefully hear something back soon.
I have been doing a lot of online research on promotion and have made a list of the things I need to do to get my atwork exposure. For starters, I need to do the following things:
1. join one or more local art associations
2. approach galleries with my portfolio
3. send a press release with the results if they are positive
I will report back to this site with the results of my efforts and hopefully will be able to inspire myself and the a few others to get out there!
